TO BEER!

Iquickly changed out of my dinner attire and threw on my elemental armor once more. It just felt more natural to me, and I liked the feeling of protection that it provided.

I grabbed my fireplace poker and walked down the path to the small huts below the Overlook. Sometime between me leaving my house, and arriving down below, Gus had managed to push himself into a seated position. I laughed and offered a hand as I neared and helped the hulking man up to his feet. "You okay there, Gus?"

The man looked at me, staggering slightly, squinting as he attempted to focus on me. "I've never been better. I've cracked the recipe!"

I cocked my head and eyed him curiously. "What recipe would this be?"

"Soulvine!" He stumbled forward and grabbed a bottle off a small bistro table sitting outside the front door of his small house. Thrusting it in my direction, his blurry eyes went wide. "Try it! Do it. You won't regret it, I promise you!"

I admired the man's fervor, enough so, that I decided to take a swig. I grabbed the green glass bottle and held it up in the air. The hazy liquid inside glowed slightly from the light of the lanterns hanging outside Gus's house.

I popped the cork keeping the liquid inside and took a whiff. It was incredible how familiar it smelled. It seemed to be a mixture of grapefruit and some sort of floral scent. After a few seconds, it struck me. Hops. I wasn't sure what Soulvine was, but it smelled identical to an IPA. After taking a drink, I realized that was exactly what it was.

Wiping the back of my mouth with my hand I smiled and nodded. "Damn, Gus. That's incredible."

"Right?!" He grabbed the bottle back from me and finished it off with a single chug. "I've been working at it for year and have finally discovered how to fuse Qi with alcohol. There's no stopping me now."

"There better not be any stopping you. This stuff is amazing!" I paused and glanced around. "Have any more?"

Gus let out a laugh that echoed through the village and motioned for me to follow him. "Do I have more?! Do centaurs suck a mean dick?!"

I thought about Mel, and how I'd not been able to confirm that statement yet but was definitely going to add that one to the top of my list.

As I neared Gus's front door I was immediately struck by the rich aroma of malt and hops wafting from the door. The exterior of the house was plain and didn't look much different inside. As I entered, I noticed a lack of furniture and decorations. The walls were bare, and there were no paintings or family photos hanging anywhere. The only pieces of furniture were a wooden table with a few chairs, and a bed tucked away in the corner of the room.

The floorboards creaked under my feet, the wood appearing almost ancient under my feet. The windows were thin and covered in a layer of dust.
